THIS PROJECT IS ABOUT
Bringing SOCIAL & CULTURAL VISIBILITY to the Indigenous communities in Costa Rica and to build the foundation for cultural change and for a shift in perception. In Costa Rica the indigenous people in the majority of cases are treated as strangers in their own land.
We are starting with a beautiful BOOK of black & white photographs compiled with the Indigenous communities in Grano de Oro, Cöen, Boca Cöen, Tsipirí and Kokötei in Costa Rica. This project is the result of a communal dialogue that started back in 1996. It emerged at the bequest of these communities, which some feel that they have been left at the margins of Costa Rican society. It horizontally connects people and works as a process whereby outsiders, such as ourselves, come in as facilitators and connectors. We are not the story. PHOTOGRAPHS, JOURNALISTIC WRITINGS, MUSINGS & THEIR OWN WORDS will bring this book to life! WE BELIEVE THIS PROJECT IS IMPORTANT
as an example of many communities around the world that live at the margins of society. VISIBILITY IS a key to understanding and acceptance, to human dignity and prosperity. Those that remain invisible get left behind and their basic human rights end up being compromised. DID YOU KNOW
that in Costa Rica there are many indigenous people that speak only their native language such as Cabécar and Bribri? PHOTOGRAPHY & STORIES
Our objective for this phase of the project is to get the content of this first book ready to go, stories, writing and create an initial rough draft of the book. |
INTIMATE PORTRAITS AND EVERYDAY LIFE IN THEIR OWN WORDS
The faces and people that you see captured in these images, will share with us a little about their lives in their own words giving us a true view of their inner world. |
